What is it?

The Inclusion Index Calculator is an innovative digital tool that helps youth organizations assess and improve how inclusive their practices truly are. Designed to combat tokenism and support genuine diversity, the calculator invites users to reflect on six core dimensions of inclusion, adapted to the realities of different youth organizations across Europe.

This self-assessment tool guides organizations in identifying areas where diversity is only symbolic and offers actionable insights to move toward meaningful and equitable inclusion. It was co-created with experts in diversity and youth work and tested by youth workers in real-world settings to ensure its accessibility, clarity, and relevance.

How does it work?

The tool presents a structured questionnaire across six dimensions:

Each question has scored answers, allowing organizations to receive a percentage-based result and one of five inclusion levels (from “Very Low” to “Very High”).

Once the questionnaire is completed:
The tool is multilingual (EN, ES, HR, NL) and freely available, ensuring it is accessible and usable by youth organizations of all sizes and profiles​Tokenism.

Inclusion Toolkit

What is it?

The Inclusion Toolkit: A Practical Guide to Combating Tokenism is a comprehensive set of educational materials developed to train youth workers and educators in fostering real inclusion. It includes workshops, methodologies, and reflection tools designed to help professionals move beyond symbolic diversity strategies.

The toolkit is based on both expert input and grassroots feedback, and is adaptable to multiple groups including migrants, deaf youth, racially diverse youth, and others often underrepresented in youth spaces​Tokenism.

It has been piloted and refined through local workshops and is downloadable for free.

eLearning Course: Tokenism vs. Authentic Inclusion

What is it?

An interactive online course built for youth workers and youth alike. It introduces the concept of tokenism and equips learners with the knowledge to detect it — and the tools to move beyond it. The course combines video content, quizzes, real case studies, and self-reflection tasks.

Available in multiple languages, it aims to empower over 100 youth professionals and young people with practical skills and strategies for achieving authentic inclusion​.

eLearning Course Final Test

KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT

A short online assessment that confirms what learners have taken from the eLearning course. Twenty questions covering all five modules from recognising tokenism and Hart’s Ladder to designing co-creation and embedding inclusion in organisational culture. The test takes around 30 minutes and uses a mix of single choice, multiple choice, True/False, and matching questions.

Learners who score 70% or higher receive a personalised PDF certificate of completion, signed by the BETYLI Collective. Available in English, Croatian, Spanish, German, and Dutch so participants from across the partner countries can take the test in their own language while receiving an internationally recognised certificate.

Declaration on Authentic Inclusion

What is it?

A formal commitment signed by 40 European organizations to uphold real inclusion — not as a branding tool, but as a core ethical practice.

The Declaration on Genuine Inclusion outlines shared principles and minimum standards that organizations agree to adopt and promote in their youth work. It was developed through a participatory process and is intended as both a reference point and a call to action across Europe​Tokenism.
